Who we are

The BDIU comprises more than 500 companies from the receivables management sector. They are subject to the strict supervision of the association. This ensures a conscientious, orderly and honest collection profession.

The BDIU combines the interests of the industry
In the Bundesverband Deutscher Inkasso-Unternehmen e.V. (BDIU / German Association of Debt Collection Companies), the majority of active debt collection service providers are organised. All members meet the BDIU's strict requirements for conscientious, orderly and honest professional practice. Since 1956, the association has represented the interests of the collection industry nationwide vis-à-vis the public.

Partners of the economy
Debt collection agencies see themselves as partners on behalf of business and industry and as fair intermediaries between the legitimate interests of creditors and those of debtors. The following tasks are typical:

  • Advising and assisting clients
  • Information and scoring procedures
  • Collection of commercially dunned receivables
  • Titling in judicial dunning proceedings as well as
  • Recovery of receivables with enforceable titles
  • Control and monitoring procedures.

Membership in the BDIU is a seal of quality
Membership of the BDIU is a seal of quality for serious debt collection. Association members must prove that they have an orderly financial situation. They must prove that they have extensive theoretical and practical legal knowledge.

All BDIU members have agreed on high quality standards for the collection of receivables. They are laid down in the "professional guidelines" of the statutes.

In cases of dispute, the independent concilliation body mediates. Since 2019 it has been headed by Brigitte Zypries, former Federal Minister of Justice.

The BDIU as a sought-after expert
Authorities, the judiciary and politicians rely on the BDIU as an expert for all questions of professional law relating to debt collection. The BDIU prepares expert opinions, comments on relevant legislative proposals and supports the responsible authorities in processing applications from companies for registration as debt collection service providers.
