Expert Committees

Good cooperation with bailiffs, data protection, legal issues relevant to the sector and European jurisdiction – these are the topics of the Expert Committees in the BDIU.

Legal Committee

The Legal Committee comments on legislative projects relevant to debt collection. It supports the Berlin office in tricky legal issues and deals with the fundamental legal issues arising in the day-to-day work of debt collection companies. The Legal Committee also drafts BDIU standards and guidelines for the work of debt collection agencies that go beyond the minimum legal requirements.

Committee for cooperation with bailiffs

Collection service providers and bailiffs are interdependent in their daily work. The BDIU Committee aims to optimise cooperation between the professions. In the meetings, current problems are discussed and political goals are defined, statements and concepts are developed and cooperation and exchange are promoted. The committee advises the BDIU Steering Committee on relevant legislative projects by means of practical experience. Representatives of the German Federation of Bailiffs (Deutscher Gerichtsvollzieher Bund – DGVB) participate in the meetings.

European Committee

At the level of the European Union, more and more laws are being developed that directly affect the collection industry. The EU is therefore becoming the natural addressee and contact partner of the BDIU. For this reason, the European Committee monitors the relevant legislative processes

Data Protection Committee

Whether for address determination, credit assessment, telephone debt collection or field service, debt collection service providers process sensitive personal data on a daily basis. At the same time, the data protection framework has changed more rapidly in recent years than almost any other legal area. The General Data Protection Regulation and the E-Privacy Regulation pose major challenges not only for the debt collection industry. The BDIU Committee for Data Protection supports the industry in adapting its internal processes to the new legal framework and advises the Steering Committee on the drafting of association positions on current legislative procedures.
